Knit PDF - Field of Diamonds Pillow Download

The Field of Diamonds Pillow originally appeared in the January 2003 issue of the now sadly no longer published House & Garden Magazine. For me - a real shelter magazine groupie - it was one of the most exciting things to happen for me professionally as a designer. To have two of my pillows featured as a hot trend in HG was awesome to say the least! The other pillow pictured is the Turkish Leaves Pillow Pattern available on this website too.

When visitors come to my house, many of them think the Field of Diamonds Pillow is needlepointed. I tell them that it is knit and they are amazed. The design is worked in two colors - green and a dark henna brown. After the knitting is completed, other colors of yarn are added in duplicate stitch to create the needlepoint look. Doing the duplicate stitch is very relaxing and a lot of fun - it transforms a rather plain pillow into a kaleidoscope of colors. The full-color embroidery chart is easy to follow, and working it is similar to following a needlepoint or cross-stitch chart.

The project is knit in worsted weight wool yarn. Techniques you will learn:
•How to follow a chart
•Two-color Fair Isle
•Duplicate stitch
•Steeking
•Mitered corners

Skill Level: For intermediate knitters with some experience in knitting with more than one color.

Finished Size: Approximately 20" square

Notions: US size 6 (4 mm) straight or circular needles for pillow front; three 29" (70 cm) US size 6 (4 mm) circular needles for border; stitch markers; 20" down pillow insert; 5/8 yard 45" fabric for pillow back; matching thread and sewing needle; blunt-pointed tapestry needle for embroidery; T-pins for blocking
