My family and I have a business which sells our Leyden Glen Farm pasture raised lamb to the public. During the summer, we set up at local farmer’s markets. Because some of the markets aren't very busy, I always have my knitting with me. While passing the time at the market, I thought it would be fun to make up my own knitted market bag. It has a fun and festive look to it - similar to the feeling that many farmer’s markets have.

The Farmer’s Market Bag is worked in two sections using a worsted weight wool yarn. The bottom section is worked back and forth in rows in seven garter stitch, short-rowed wedges that resemble the pieces of a pie. When complete, the cast-on and bound-off edges of the bottom are seamed together to create a bowl shape, then stitches for the top section are picked up around the outer edge of the bowl and worked in garter stitch stripes in the round to the top.

After the knitting is complete, you throw it in the washer to felt it. I used leather handles that I was lucky to find in a pretty olive green color. It is lined with a cotton fabric. The Farmer's Market Bag makes a great knitting tote too!

I used a worsted weight wool yarn for my market bag. You MUST USE A WOOL OR WOOL BLEND YARN that is at least 85% wool for the object to felt. Do not use a superwash yarn as it has been treated NOT TO FELT.
