Knitting the New Classics was the first book I authored while working as Creative Director for Classic Elite Yarns. It was published in 1995 and then re-published as a paperback in 1998. When Knitting The New Classics came out, it was THE ONLY knitting book to be brought out that year. It was a huge seller and cemented my name amongst the Who's Who of the knitting world back then. Flash forward 23 years (yikes - how did that happen) and nary a knitting pattern book is published anymore due to the proliferation of the on-line knitting world and pattern base of Ravelry.

Knitting the New Classics is a collection of 60 sweater designs for men, women, and children, 25 of which I designed. The rest of the designs are by well-known knitwear designers, including Cathy Payson, Linda Pratt, Susan Mills, Sally Lee, Norah Gaughan, Stephanie Gildersleeve, Julie Hoff, Deborah Newton, Michele Rose, and Kathy Zimmerman. I was lucky enough to work with a talented group of in-house and freelance designers to develop the Classic Elite Yarns handknitting collections over my 16 years with Classic Elite Yarns.

The photos featured are all of my design, including the cover sweaters. Back in the day, many knitters made these designs and some of them may still wear them today.

Now, sadly, Classic Elite Yarns has closed their doors and all the beautiful yarns are no longer available.

You can often pick this title up in used book stores and charity shops. The sweaters still look good and have held the test of time, albeit with a few tweaks.
