Lamps and Lampshades
Kristin Nicholas produces a small collection of lamps with handpainted shades.

They are limited in production because they are created from antique lamp parts which she discoveres in her travels. These bits and pieces are assembled into true one-of-a-kind lamp bases which are painted in a matte black finish. Sometimes unusual objects can serve as bases - antique gallon bottles and containers from faraway lands are favorites. Because the bases cannot be reproduced, each stands as a unique sculpture in its own right.

Kristin paints the distinctive fabric lampshades to reflect themes from her other artwork. The wonderful free-flowing motifs often include geometric shapes and patterns, flowers, leaves, and vines from her garden, and motifs inspired by her antique and ethnic fabric collection. Fade-resistant textile paint is used for long-lasting color.

While the unlit lamps are fun and exotic, they become magical when illuminated, creating the effect of light pouring through stained glass. The color palette is bright and intense. As the lampshade turns, the motifs and colors change - similar to looking into a kaleidoscope.

Kristin's lamps are a cheerful way to contribute to your home's individual character and appeal.

Lamp bases begin at $200 for a unique, one-of-a-kind matte black lamp (assembled). All are about 24" high. Shades begin at $250 for the 11" shades pictured below. Larger styles, or your own shade, can be custom painted as well. Production is limited.

Sunflower Lamp
A host of different floral motifs are painted on a stunning background of sunflower yellow. Shades include hot pink, rose, violet, bright blue, orange, chartreuse, aqua, and olive. This lamp would be a nice addition to a sunny bedroom.

Plaid, Polka and Leaves Lamp
The colors in this lampshade are bright rose, orange, turquoise, gold, chartreuse, violet and grey. The shade is divided into quadrants with different designs and background colors in each. Geometric plaid and ovals are balanced by vined leaves. As the lamp turns, its mood changes.

Technicolor Leaves Lamp
Vibrant colors offset a collection of leaf shapes on this lamp. Colors include turquoise, orange, violet, magenta, pink, chartreuse, grey, and red.

Gold Ogee Lamp
The shade on this lamp has a gold background. Additional colors include turquoise, orange, red, grey, violet, and chartreuse. Each ogee shape contains a floral motif. Organically shaped half-ovals balance the ogees.

Primaries Ogee Lamp
Primary shades of red, yellow, and blue are combined with other bright shades of violet, chartreuse, and magenta to mage a truly spectacular lamp. When lit, the design sparkles with intensity. The ornate, curving shapes on the base on this lamp make for a stunning piece.
