Date: August 8, 2015 - Saturday --- $225
Add-On Studio Day: August 9, 2015 ---- $150
Hours: 9:30 to 4:30
Class Intro: Do you like to create and are interested in decorating things for your home and family with fantastimagorical stitches and color? Are you a latent cross-stitcher wanting to branch out and increase your needle skills? Do you yearn to make things with your hands that can be passed on as heirlooms to family you do not even know yet?
Then.... crewel embroidery is for you. Crewel is one of the easiest-to-learn types of needlework. The tools are linen fabric and wool threads, an embroidery hoop, and a desire to stitch and design. It is entirely portable. It has an illustrative quality to it. It also takes well to quotes and words and monograms. The uses are limitless. I have made many crewel pieces - most of which I use to decorate my home with. I have written a book called Colorful Stitchery which features many crewel projects. I also teach Crewel Embroidery on the on-line Craftsy website. I am known internationally for my work with color, handmade textiles, interior decoration and for her books Crafting a Colorful Home, Color By Kristin, and many other titles.
The Crewel Embroidery Class at the Farm will feature stitches that are not included in the Craftsy class. If you are a beginning stitcher, you can still take this class although it will be helpful if you have already taken my Craftsy class.
What will you make? You will begin with a small sampler piece of fabric for 18 NEW stitches. You will also be given the supplies to make the sampler bag shown below. The sampler could also be made into a pillow or small framed piece.
What will you learn?
•18 NEW Crewel Embroidery Stitches - none of which are included in my on-line Craftsy class.
•Transfer Methods: Sulky Transfer Pens and other ways of transferring a design to fabric. We will discuss how and when to use the different methods.
•We will discuss design and color and pattern. If you choose to stay for the second day, Kristin will help you design a project of your very own design.
What is included? Linen fabric to stitch on. Selection of crewel wool. Crewel needle. Hand-out including 18 new Crewel Stitches.
What do you need to bring: Scissors, portable Ott-lite with magnifying glass if you have difficulty seeing small things.
There will be additional embroidery supplies available for sale at the end of the class.
Price: Saturday August 8th - $225 includes linen fabric and some thread.
Second Day - Add-on Studio Day August 9th: $150 for more instruction, a farm and farmhouse tour, and more individualized instruction depending on the students attending and their wishes. The second day is very loosey-goosey - more like a "studio day". Depending on students staying, we may be able to delve into the other topics I teach here at the farm.
Includes snacks, beverages, and farm-raised lunch, hand-out, linen fabric, wool thread and needle.
Class Size: Limited to 8 students
There will be no refunds for this workshop - Please know that you can make it before registering. Our farmhouse is unfortunately not handicapped accessible. You will need to go down a flight of stairs to get to the studio. We have cats and dogs so if you are allergic, this is not the place for you.
You will receive a registration form to be completed. Please note any dietary restrictions so I can plan accordingly.
